Easy Steamed Zucchini

The simplest and quickest way to prepare courgette is with this surefire method. You may add a nutritious vegetable side dish to dinner by simply steaming it on the hob for a little while.

2 medium zucchini
Salt, to taste
Black pepper, to taste
Lemon juice (optional)
Fresh herbs (such as basil), for garnish (optional)

Wash the zucchini thoroughly under cold water. Trim off the ends.

Slice the zucchini into uniform rounds or lengthwise into thin strips, depending on your preference.

Fill a steamer pot or a saucepan with a few inches of water and bring it to a boil over medium heat.

Place the zucchini slices or strips in a steamer basket or a colander, ensuring they are evenly spread out and not overcrowded.

Sprinkle salt and black pepper over the zucchini to season them to your liking.

Once the water is boiling, place the steamer basket or colander with the zucchini over the pot, making sure it doesn’t touch the water. If necessary, cover the pot with a lid.

Steam the zucchini for about 5-7 minutes or until they are tender yet still slightly crisp. Avoid overcooking to prevent them from becoming mushy.

Once the zucchini is steamed to your desired texture, carefully remove the steamer basket or colander from the pot. Be cautious as steam can be hot.

If desired, drizzle a little lemon juice over the steamed zucchini for added brightness and flavor.

Transfer the steamed zucchini to a serving dish and garnish with fresh herbs like parsley or basil, if desired.

Serve the steamed zucchini as a side dish or incorporate it into other recipes like salads, stir-fries, or pasta dishes.
